Both days will include rustic wagon hayrides around the museum campus, along with pony rides for children. Circle B Ranch in Chestertown, NY, will bring two horses and a pony to the museum for this activity. After taking in the fall foliage on your wagon ride, watch Dean, Dick and Mary Merrill demonstrate old-fashioned cider making with an authentic steam powered apple press from the late 1800s. Then join Don Grout and try your hand at cider pressing! Visitors of all ages can grind apples and press cider with a hand cranked press.
Visitors can also show off their creative side by painting a small pumpkin, making a mobile out of pinecones, or simply creating a piece of art out of fall leaves and natural materials.
Be sure to stop and listen to the toe tapping music by the Lime Hollow Boys on Saturday, October 6 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Ray Gardner, Johnny Wolfe, and Floyd Sherman, the musicians, come from an area known as "lime hollow" in upstate New York near Potsdam. The Lime Hollow Boys play country and folk music blending bass, the guitar, the fiddle and the harmonica. Venues they have played include the New York State Fair, the White House, and even appearances at the Country Music Association's Fan Fair in Nashville, Tennessee.
On Sunday, October 7, you can continue to dance; this time to Lee Knight's foot stomping tunes at 1 p.m. Knight, raised in nearby Saranac Lake, is a folksinger, storyteller, and outdoor leader. His music incorporates the banjo, mountain dulcimer, Cherokee flute, and Native American drum. Lee Knight can be found on the web at www.leeknightmusic.com.
