The Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) has been nominated for a GRAMMY Award in the category of Best Orchestral Performance.
The nomination is for the RSNO's recording of Alexander Glazunov's Symphonies Nos. 4 & 7, conducted by José Serebrier and recorded on the Warner Classics label. Other category nominees include the BBC Philharmonic with Vernon Handley, the Budapest Festival Orchestra with Iván Fischer, the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra with Michael Tilson Thomas, and the London Symphony Orchestra with Valery Gergiev.
This is the sixth GRAMMY nomination for the RSNO in the past 5 years. In 2004 the Orchestra received four nominations across three catagories, one of which was for its recording of Glazunov's Symphony No5, also conducted by Serebrier.
RSNO Chief Executive Simon Woods, delighted with the nomination, commented: "It is wonderful that artistic excellence in Scotland is being recognised on the world stage. The GRAMMY Award nominees are at the pinnacle of recording achievement and the RSNO is honoured to be among them."Â
The GRAMMY Awards celebrate the best in recording arts. Covering 104 categories, the awards honour recordings in musical fields as diverse as pop, rock, jazz, blues, rap and classical. A GRAMMY is awarded by and to artists and technical professionals for artistic or technical achievement.
The 49th Annual GRAMMY Awards ceremony will be held at Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday 11 February.
