Officials Begin Search For Missing Plane in Washington

The Washington State Department of Transportation has begun searching for a missing plane, carrying as many as ten passengers, after it failed to arrive last night on schedule.

The plane, a Cessna 208 Caravan, was reported to have left Boise at approximately 7 pm Sunday, headed towards Shelton Wash. At 2:30 am this morning, it was reported overdue.

A hunter near White Pass told the Yakima sheriff's department that he had seen a low flying plane around 8 pm, then heard a loud crash.

Two airplanes from Yakima and a helicopter from King County have been sent to find the missing plane. Nisha Marvel of the Department of Transportation, says the search has been confined to Rimock Lake – West of Yakima – in the central Washington Cascades.

Unconfirmed reports say there were as many as ten people aboard the missing plane. Washington aviation official Tom Peterson says the passengers were returning from a skydiving competition in Boise.

The plane's emergency locater was not activated but officials are searching based off a radar ping which shows its last known location.
