17 Iraqis Killed in Bomb Blasts Across Baghdad

Iraqi security officials say at least 17 people were killed and more than 60 others wounded in bomb blasts across Baghdad Thursday.

Police say at least seven people died and 35 others were wounded when two roadside bombs exploded near a popular market in central Baghdad in the Baab al-Sharki district. The attack took place during a busy shopping time in the morning.

Shortly afterwards, a car bomb exploded near the al-Sha'ab sports stadium in an eastern part of the city that killed at least 10 people and wounded more than 25 others.

Meanwhile, the U.S. military says three American soldiers were killed and three others wounded in separate roadside bomb blasts in the Iraqi capital on Wednesday.

The military also says Iraqi special forces backed by American advisors captured an al-Qaida insurgent believed to have been involved in the kidnapping and murder of two U.S. soldiers in June. It said the man was captured in a raid in the Yusifiya region, south of Baghdad, earlier this week .
