Tektronix DPO4000: Product of the Year

Portable Oscilloscope Recognized for Quality of Design, Technical Innovation and Usability

Tektronix, Inc., a leading worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, announced that the DPO4000 Digital Phosphor Oscilloscope received the Elektra 'Product of the Year' award for 2006. Winners were announced at a black tie Gala Awards dinner, organised by Electronics Weekly, at Electronica in Munich.

Now in their 4th year, the Elektra European Electronics Industry Awards recognize excellence, innovation and achievements in the electronics industry. An independent panel of industry experts, including representatives from companies, trade bodies and academia as well as editors from Electronics Weekly, look for evidence of setting challenging objectives, outstanding achievements and innovation and achievement. The 15 award categories are designed to promote best practice in key areas, including customer care, sales growth, innovation and employee motivation.

"The DPO4000 Digital Phosphor Oscilloscope was the clear winner in the 'Product of the Year' category. It stood out from the rest of the shortlist for the way it addresses a specific engineering need - the pressing debug needs of embedded systems design engineers," said Richard Wilson, Editor, Electronics Weekly. "The design was clearly a result of well targeted research which led to the product itself offering a number of unique selling points and setting a new standard for the test and measurement industry."

"Customers have told us how much the DPO4000 is helping them to reduce the time and effort involved in finding and solving design problems," said Bob Bluhm, Vice President and General Manager, Value Scope Product Line, Tektronix. "We're honored to receive industry recognition in the form of the prestigious Elektra Product of the Year Award. With many industry firsts, the DPO4000 is a truly leadership product that sets new standards for productivity, performance, value and ease-of-use. The DPO4000 actually transforms how our customers work."

Embedded systems are incorporated literally everywhere, especially in the consumer electronics, automotive, medical, computer, communications, sub-assembly electronics, industrial and aerospace industries. These various devices - whether computer printers, automated teller machines, antilock brakes or others - have traditionally communicated with each other and the outside world using wide parallel buses. Increasingly, embedded systems designs are replacing parallel buses with serial buses such as I2C, SPI, and CAN. On a serial bus, a single signal may include address, control, data, and clock information; the complexity presents significant debug challenges for design engineers. The DPO4000 Series addresses these problems with the most integrated serial triggering, protocol decoding, and analysis capabilities in its class and represents the ultimate debug tool for engineers working with serial buses such as I2C, SPI, and CANbus.

The DPO4000 portable oscilloscope family ranges from 350 MHz to 1 GHz and is the first to offer the groundbreaking Wave Inspectorâ„¢, an unprecedented set of easy-to-use tools for discovery and efficient viewing, navigating, and analyzing waveform data. With Wave Inspector, serial triggering, protocol decode, USB plug-and-play PC connectivity, a 10.4" XGA display, and smallest footprint in its class, the new portable DPO4000 simplifies debug and meets the pressing debug needs of embedded systems design engineers.
