La Quinta Arts Foundation is bringing Blues, Brews, & BBQ to Old Town La Quinta on Saturday, November 3, 2007, 11 am to 6 pm. This new community event promoting the "Art of American Cuisine" will encompass great live music, a BBQ cook-off, microbrew competition, and more.
In a BBQ Cook-off sanctioned by the California BBQ Association, BBQ teams will compete for prize money and points towards a national championship. Attendees can purchase samples of authentic barbeque (pork ribs, beef brisket, chicken, and pulled pork) prepared by the professional grilling teams (5 samples for $10) and then vote for the winner of the People's Choice Award.
Facing off in the Battle of the Brews competition will be The Beer Hunter, Backstreet Brewing Company, and Trader Joe's La Quinta, each offering specialty microbrew samples (4 for $5). Samplers can then vote for their favorite brew for the People's Choice Award in the Microbrews category.
"Reckless Driver," one of Southern California's top bands, will take the stage Saturday afternoon as the event's featured entertainment. Preceding their show, radio station KPLM 106.1 will do a live remote broadcast from 11 am to 1 pm.
Hungry patrons will be able to purchase plates of their favorite BBQ and fixings prepared by BBQ teams and buy a cold Widmer Heferweizen, Fat Tire, or another of the many unique microbrews on tap at the Rotary Beer Booth. Plus, look for freshly roasted corn-on-the cob by Henry's Farmers Market and hot bags of sweet and salty popcorn by Grandpa's Kettle Corn. Public seating and tables will be available on the event lawn close to the stage.
Several exhibitor booths hosted by participating community organizations and businesses will be set up along the closed off streets of Old Town.
There is no charge to attend the event and free parking is available throughout the Village of La Quinta. Old Town La Quinta is located off Washington at Calle Tampico between Desert Club and Avenida Bermudas. -- www.LQAF.com
