Music For Rush Hour At Singapore Orchestra

Reward yourself after a long day at work or school – join the Singapore Symphony Orchestra at the Esplanade on October 16 for some great music at a free Rush Hour Concert. Conducted by Music Director Lan Shui, the programme features Rachmaninov's Symphony No. 2, containing one of the most beautiful melodies in classical music, as well as Paganini's virtuosic Violin Concerto No. 1, with Jin Li as soloist.

Jin Li is a current SSO violinist and former student of the great Yehudi Menuhin.

Jin Li made his debut at Carnegie Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 1985, and in the same year he appeared with Menuhin and the NHK Symphony Orchestra at the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the United Nations televised worldwide.

This Rush Hour concert is the last concert that the SSO will give in Singapore before it embarks on a three-concert tour in China from 20-26 October 2007, which will showcase the SSO at the cultural centres in Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou. This tour marks the orchestra's first return to China after a highly successful tour of Beijing and Shanghai in 2001. The orchestra will be performing at the Hangzhou Grand Theatre (Oct 20), the Shanghai Oriental Art Center (Oct 21) and Beijing's Poly Theatre (Oct 23).

The concerts in Shanghai and Beijing are part of the Singapore Season in China. All the three performances in Hangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing will be conducted by Lan Shui, with internationally renowned American violinist Gil Shaham playing the starring role in the Butterfly Lovers Concerto. The programme will also include Barber's Overture to The School for Scandal and Rachmaninov's Symphony No. 2. -- www.sso.org.sg
