Quentin Blake To Be Big Draw At Kelvingrove

One of the UK's best-loved illustrators is exhibiting a collection from his personal archive at Kelvingrove, thanks to support from KPMG Scotland. This is the first time that Quentin Blake's works have been shown in Glasgow. On display will be some of his favourite illustrations as well as several new works especially created for this exhibition.

Blake's career has spanned almost 60 years. He has created illustrations for more than 300 books, for writers such as Michael Rosen, Joan Aitken and John Yeoman. He is best known for his collaborations with Roald Dahl.

Blake has often said, 'A picture book has an effect on a reader not so very different from a good lesson.'

Bailie Liz Cameron, the Chair of Culture and Sport Glasgow, said, 'Quentin Blake is undoubtedly Britain's best illustrator and it's a major coup to have his work exhibited at Kelvingrove.

'I'm also delighted that he will be here in person to meet his many fans and explain how his talent is translated into some of the finest illustrations ever published.'

The exhibition will be on view through Sunday, 13 January 2008. Free entry. -- www.glasgowmuseums.com

  • Building a House

Builders picked up the building pace in April as the industry streaked past analyst estimates for new housing starts. Led mainly by the development of multi-family projects builders showed that they exist to do one thing - build. It's a good news as the housing starts rise unexpectedly. Could this be the bottom of the real estate crisis in the United State?
