Laura Bush Travels To Middle East

First lady Laura Bush is headed for the Middle East this month, the White House announced Monday, to promote awareness on breast cancer treatment and screening.

Mrs. Bush, it's reported, will visit from Oct. 20-26, traveling to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Jordan.

In Saudi Arabia, Bush will tour the King Fahad Medical City in Riyadh and meet with that countries King Abdullah. The first lady also plans to visit King Abdullah of Jordan.

Mrs. Bush will stop at several cancer treatment and screening centers to launch breast cancer awareness activities. In addition to medical leaders, she will also meet with women's democracy advocates and work on education and scholarship projects.

The first lady, said the White House, will also discuss the U.S.-Middle East Partnership for Breast Cancer Awareness and Research and is looking for ways to expand its role.

The trip marks Mrs. Bush's 14th oversees venture during the Bush presidency, the Middle East will be her third this year.
