Hong Kong Orchestra Presents Classical Hits

In response to the smash hit Japanese TV series, Nodame Cantabile, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra will present two evenings of classical highlights from Nodame Cantabile, including Beethoven's Symphony No. 7, Brahms' Symphony No.1, Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No.2.

The concerts will be held at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium on 9 and 10 November (Friday and Saturday) at 8pm. Nodame Cantabile – Classical Hits for the Young Hearts will feature Maestro Edo de Waart as the conductor and pianist Song Siheng as the soloist. Outstanding young violinist Wang Liang and pianist Crystal Lam Kai-yin will also make guest appearances in Beethoven's Spring Sonata. Due to popular demand, an extra matinee concert is added on 10 November (Sat) at 4pm. Tickets are available at all URBTIX outlets tomorrow (12 October).

Born in China, pianist Song Siheng won the First Prize of Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud International Piano Competition in 2004, in addition to the best concerto prize and the best final recital prize. Only in his early twenties, he is the first Chinese pianist to have won this coveted international piano competition. He has given recitals and concerts all around Europe, North American, North Africa, China and Japan to great acclaims.

Violinist Wang Liang, a graduate of the China Central Conservatory, is a winner of this year's Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra's Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Orchestral Fellowships. Pianist Crystal Lam Kai-yin is currently a Year Two student of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA). She was the first-prize winner of the Third Asian Youth Music Competition (Senior Group), held in Shanghai in 2006, and also a winner of the Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Scholarships for Outstanding Merit at the HKAPA. -- www.hkpo.com
