Burt Bacharach On Stage With Sydney Orchestra

Due to overwhelming demand, and the fantastic success of his 2007 tour, those who previously missed out are treated to a special encore Australian season of Burt Bacharach and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. After 5 sell-out shows in July, Bacharach together with his band and singers are returning for two special encore performances at the Sydney Opera House in 2008.

"I can't remember a time I've enjoyed as much as these concerts, in this hall, with this fabulous orchestra." Burt Bacharach, July 2007

On January 31and February 1 Sydney audiences can relive the songs that have captivated music-lovers, movie-goers and romantics across the globe for six decades. Bacharach will also perform in wonderful summertime-style at the Wyndham Estate Winery in the Hunter Valley on February 2.

Of his 2007 performances, Bacharach was “dapper cool, with a touch of humility” (SMH, July 07) and brought audiences much joy with his “beautifully realised” classics. The magic orchestral arrangements promise that his continuing collaboration with the Sydney Symphony will more than impress with “imaginative enhancements to the original” sounds (SMH, July 07).

One of the world’s most prolific and celebrated song writers, Bacharach is joined on stage by the Sydney Symphony and his US band and singers for a truly magical live experience that will see him both at the piano and on the microphone. Showcasing some of his all time classic hits, Bacharach’s Sydney concerts will include What’s New Pussycat, Raindrops keep fallin’ on my head, Always something there to remind me, I say a little prayer, What the World needs now and Alfie.

Bacharach’s 60-year career as one of songwriting’s most successful and honored songwriters has been marked by 48 Top 10 hits, nine #1 songs, more than 500 compositions and a landmark 49-year run on the charts. He is a recipient of three Academy Awards and seven Grammy Awards. His songs have been recorded by Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Barbra Streisand, Neil Diamond, Linda Ronstadt, Dionne Warwick and Aretha Franklin.

The Sydney Symphony has collaborated with a stellar line up of stars in recent years, including sell-out performances with Ben Folds, Olivia Newton-John and John Farnham. Bringing new audiences to the concert hall and weaving together the music of film, jazz and popular culture they represent an exciting side to Australia’s flagship Orchestra. -- www.sydneysymphony.com
