A Strauss Odyssey At Singapore Orchestra

The name of Soile Isokoski originally implies ‘Northern Light’, which shines through her golden, lyrical voice. Having performed in renowned opera houses all over the world, the Finnish soprano joins the Singapore Symphony Orchestra on 22 November in Richard Strauss’ last work Four Last Songs.

Isokoski graduated from the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and made her stage debut with the Finnish National Opera. In honour of her notable contribution to Finnish music, Isokoski was awarded with the Pro-Finlandia medal in 2002.

The all-Strauss evening led by conductor Okko Kamu also features the ballet music to The Legend of Joseph, telling the Biblical story of Joseph and Potiphar’s wife and Also Sprach Zarathustra, made popular by the blockbuster movie 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Finnish conductor Okko Kamu started learning the violin and the piano from a young age and later went on to win the first prize in the first International Karajan Conductor Competition in 1969 which led to an extensive international career. He has been the Principal Guest Conductor of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra since 1995. -- www.sso.org.sg
