Bertoncini has established himself as a master of guitar, bridging the styles of jazz, classical, pop and bossa nova, integrating his own tasteful improvisations along the way. He has earned critical regard for his artistry on both the classical and the electric guitar.
After growing up as a child performer in New York City, Bertoncini's career took an interesting turn. He got a degree in architecture from the University of Notre Dame, but was then swept back into the music scene, working with the Benny Goodman Sextet, Tony Bennett, Lena Horne, Vic Damone, Burt Bacharach and many others.
He believes that his architectural experience is something that gives his music a finely wrought form and style. Similar to a good architectural design, Bertoncini's music is careful crafted, yet allows for improvisation flourishes that add to the warmth of his classical guitar sound.
"I think the time I take to prepare arrangements for the guitar are reflective of that," he said. "Each song I play has a particular story to tell."
Sean Smith, a Connecticut resident, will join Bertoncini on the bass. "Sean is a great soloist with an individual style. He is also a great supporting player with sensitivity to the music," Bertoncini said.
