Re-live the adventure and the romance of Hollywood’s most loved films as the Sydney Symphony Orchestra presents the theme songs that helped make ET, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Star Wars famous. Indelibly tied to heroes of the silver screen, John Williams’ music gave them sound and song that has etched them into the memories of audiences across the globe.
In this special concert presentation, the Sydney Symphony performs live under Grammy Award winning conductor and Arnie Roth.
It’s a special treat for Sydney Symphony, who share their 75th birthday with John Williams this year. As part of its year-long birthday celebrations it joins forces with other musicians of great acclaim, that also turn 75. Williams is one of the most influential film composers of all time. With 43 Oscar nominations to his name, his film scores are from some of the world’s favourite films including Jaws, Schindler's List, E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, Superman, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Star Wars.
Conductor, Arnie Roth made his debut with the Sydney Symphony at the Sydney Opera House earlier this year conducting Play! A Videogame Symphony. He says, “John Williams is one of the truly great modern composers and it’s a great honour to be presenting some of his most-loved pieces with the Sydney Symphony. This is music that endures, and I have no doubt that in a hundred years this will still warm hearts and bring a smile to people across the globe when they hear it. Orchestras are increasingly embracing the music of film as a standard part of their concert repertoire and it’s wonderful to see that Sydney Symphony is leading the way with innovative programs such as this. I encourage movie and music-lovers alike to come and get a taste of what this music can do in live performance – nothing beats it!”
Sydney Symphony Orchestra invites audiences to join in a salute to this acclaimed composer. With the original scores and arrangements as written by John Williams, the first half of the concert features many of John Williams’ most famous film compositions. The second half of the concert features selections from the six Star Wars films. -- www.sydneysymphony.com
