CAE develops UH-145 helicopter procedural trainers

CAE was awarded a contract by EADS North America to design and manufacture the first UH-145 cockpit procedural trainer (CPT) for the United States Army. Under terms of the contract, CAE will also build a second UH-145 CPT for American Eurocopter's training centre in Grand Prairie, Texas.

EADS North America, prime contractor for the UH-145 helicopter, will acquire the UH-145 CPTs to support pilot transition and proficiency training for the US Army. The UH-145 was selected by the Army as its next-generation Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) earlier this year.

"This contract demonstrates the confidence that major prime contractors and military services have in CAE's ability to deliver high-fidelity helicopter training systems," said John Lenyo, President and General Manager, CAE USA. "We have delivered training systems for the greatest variety of helicopters and we're pleased to add the new UH-145 to this growing list."

The UH-145 CPTs will be used for procedural, familiarization, and transition training as the Army begins taking delivery of the UH-145 LUH, which will replace aging UH-1 and OH-58 helicopters.

The Army plans to acquire up to 322 UH-145 helicopters over the next decade. The primary missions for the LUH are to provide aerial transport of staff and liaison elements, medical transport and evacuation, air messenger service, air movement of supplies, maintenance support, and limited command and control. Through its speed and agility, the LUH will meet time sensitive transport requirements for urgently needed documents, supplies/equipment, and/or limited number of forces that are not already available through an existing ground transportation network. For more information on the UH-145, see the program's official website at www.uh-145.com.
