Air Force And Space Age To Be Discussed At Museum

Wes Henry, chief of the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force's Research Division, will present "The 50th Anniversary of the Space Age: The Air Force Role" in the Carney Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Oct. 30.

With October 2007 marking the 50th anniversary of the arrival of the Space Age with the launch of Sputnik in 1957, this presentation offers an overview of the significant events and accomplishments of the U.S. Air Force in support of the United States' conquest of space during the last 50 years.

The museum displays a broad overview of the Air Force's involvement in space in the Missile and Space Gallery. The lecture, which is part of the museum's Volunteer Information Program, is free and open to the public.

Henry received his master's degree in History and Museum Administration from Wright State University in 1981. He has worked in the federal museum field for over 25 years, all but three of those years being in the Research Division at the National Museum of the U.S Air Force. As Research Division chief, Henry oversees the development and production of the museum's exhibit scripts and the operation of the museum's archival collection.

The National Museum of the United States Air Force is located on Springfield Street, six miles northeast of downtown Dayton. It is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day). -- www.nationalmuseum.af.mil
