Dance Base, Scotland's National Centre for Dance, kicks up its heels for a day of stepping, jigging and reels on Sunday 28 October 2007.
The Highland Fling is a jam-packed day of workshops in various traditional Scottish dance styles hosted by one of the best loved and most refreshing Scottish traditional dance companies, Dannsa.
With classes suitable for everyone from beginner to advanced, participants can learn Hebridean Dance, Jigs and Hornpipes and Highland Dancing as well as Step Dance and Highland Reels and Quadrilles. Throughout the day all of the classes will be accompanied by two of the finest traditional musicians on pipes and highland fiddle. Leading the classes are two of the company's leading dancers, each with their own unique skills and style.
At the end of the day those who still have the energy can join in and have one last fling at the Final Shindig, whilst those who have run out of fuel can come along to encourage, clap, tap their feet and sing along. This is a chance for everyone to put into practise the steps and jigs learnt throughout the day in a lively, fun, social dance to finish off the day.
The Highland Fling is just one of the events featured in Dance Base's Autumn term. With a range of pay on the day classes every week and other events happening until December, Dance Base offers another term of classes in a wide range of different styles. -- www.dancebase.co.uk
