In a round of auditions held in late September, the Ann Arbor Symphony (A2SO) hired 10 new musicians to round out its orchestral performance staff. Richard Edwards joins us on the Double Bass, Katherine Evans will play Principal Bassoon, and Daniel Thomas joins us on Cello.
On violin, we are joined by Jeannette Jang, Karen Jenks, Igor Kalnin, Xiaojing Pu, Barton Rotberg, Dan Stachyra, and Trina Ann Stoneham. Additionally Yi-Ting Kuo was promoted within the organization to Assistant Concertmaster.
A2SO Music Director and Conductor Arie Lipsky said of the auditions, "We had the highest level of candidates we have ever had, and as a result, we could hire a lot of players. We got candidates from all parts of the country, so obviously our reputation is growing. Our new principal bassoon comes from Chicago, and our new bass player performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra." Referring to the new Assistant Concertmaster, Lipskie said, "Yi-Ting Kuo became a member of our violin section last year, and obviously she made a good impression. She played a fantastic audition."
