The batik lanterns will be used during the climax of the Lantern Festival on Sunday, December 2, in which a glowing parade of lantern carriers will proceed from the Museum’s main entrance at 5:30 p.m. to Wade Oval, where the procession will encircle artist-created Environment of Light installations.
CMA community arts artistic director, Robin VanLear and her staff lead a series of hands on workshops for participants to create unique, individual batik lanterns. The fee for the workshop is $50 for individuals or $150 per family (up to four family members; $25 for each additional person).
The fee includes materials to make one lantern per person ($15 for each additional lantern). Participants may choose one session each week (and they are able to switch between Friday sessions and Sunday sessions), including: 6-8:30 p.m. Fridays, Nov. 2, 9, 16; and 2-4:30 p.m. Sundays, Nov. 4, 11, 18. Children under 15 must register and attend with an adult. Most lanterns will take three or more sessions to complete. Participants may attend as many sessions as they wish. -- www.clevelandart.org
