It is so trite the ways of the world that sometimes one begins to assume that the peculiarities of existence are bequeathed to some in more degrees than others. This assumption has proven to be as old as the very existence of man under the structure of organised society. Since documented history, the dominance of man over his fellow man has it's principles hinged under the guise of politics. The struggle for power between contending forces both on a domestic scale and in a scale that trenscends international borders led to a clash at the micro and macro level of society whose reverbrations till date remains the very essence of conflict situations the world over.
The global community coming off millinia of experience has found itself in a cul de sac as the hitherto held maxim "experience is the best teacher" loses it's very significance. If one thing is sure, contemporary world leaders are on the very edge of failure by repeating the same mistakes that had been made by previous leaders of the world. A cursory observer of world affairs today shows a glaring gradual descent into chaos, hardly any region of the world today is totally immune from deliquents and negative minded individuals who even with their presumed ignorance of historical accounts or their knowledge of such, choose to replicate these and thus risk the unavoidable outcome which would do no one no good.
As the sun rises in my homeland in Benin City Nigeria, I cannot help but wonder what is going on in the world out there, with the many news that filter in whenever the news is on. The bickerings of political leaders of the world speaking with both sides of their mouths while paying lipservice to the various yearnings and aspirations of the entire citizenry of the earth who look up to them for leadership and guidance, makes one wonder if these guys possess the acumen to be what they are. Blame trading has become the norm and no one knows for sure what the truth is. It is quite disheartening, but my Nigeria has her own issues even while attempting to become a vibrant economy within the global market place. Ethnic and tribal sentiments still play a role in the interrelationships that take place between her millions of people and while some deep rooted tensions have been experienced, there is the very presence of a unity of purpose that is threatened by such held sentiments.
This scenario has replicated itself in varying degrees worldwide and while it might not be ethno tribal sentiments, it might just probably be racially induced. However, at the end of the day, the onus falls on the leaders of the world to shelve archaic views and strive for the sustainability of our world. We must begin to leave for today and feel the need for today. There is no harm in righting the many centuries old wrongs that has been done by leaders with personal intentions at heart, rather it would lead to the avoidance of conflict. Someone in Darfur, Sudan might not see the sun rise tomorrow, the victim of people with minds of their own. A man might want to take the life for a cause which he believes in and in so doing takes the lives of others who had no choice on the issue.
As the sun rises in Benin City Nigeria, I cannot help but wonder if one day the entire world would wake up to peace and watch the sun rise with me irrespective of class, tribe, race or belief.
