Nicolas Sarkozy Storms Out of 60 Minutes Interview

CBS 60 Minutes: French President Nicolas Sarkozy Storms Out of Interview with Lesley Stahl.

Tonight on CBS, Lesley Stahl interviewed French President Nicolas Sarkozy on 60 Minutes. Sarkozy is a very impressive leader. Notably, he is pro-American, something America has not seen from a French President in decades. In fact, he is so supportive of America and American work ethic that the French people call him “Sarko the American.”

According to Sarkozy, people only get what they are prepared to struggle for. Well, he certainly has practiced what he preaches. For example, nobody in his family was ever in politics. Nevertheless, he worked his way up to where he is today.

Moreover, he even accomplished everything he has despite being from Hungarian decent and a middleclass family. Being born in France has almost always been a requirement for French politicians. That is one of the reasons why Sarkozy loves America so much.

Sarkozy loves America because it is the freest Country in the world. In America, he asserted, you can be from anywhere and be successful. He even mentioned how your last name can be Schwarzenegger and you can become the Governor of California.

Sarkozy also talked about creating a new work ethic in France. “Encouraging work is our priority,” he said. High on his agenda is to repeal the Socialistic law in France that says people cannot work more than 35 hours a week. He asserted that people in France are not working hard enough. No wonder he is called the “Sarko the American.”

Something interesting about Sarkozy that I had never heard before was that he once talked a suicide bomber into releasing children from a building. Sarkozy walked into the building and carried the children out in his arms! He is truly a fearless leader.

So when liberals bash George Bush for turning the World against us, the fact that France democratically elected a staunchly pro-American President is an indication that the liberal MSM has no idea what they are talking about. First, George Bush is loved by Eastern Europe where he can walk into an open crowd and be hugged by loving fans. Now, the French people elect a leader who promised to amend French ties with America. The liberal argument does not hold water.

Sadly, Sarkozy’s pro-American stance clearly hurt his chances of getting a fair interview with Lesley Stahl. With the exception of Steve Kroft's interview of Justice Clarence Thomas, Conservative leaders rarely receive fair interviews on CBS. For example, when Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney was interviewed on 60 Minutes by Mike Wallace, he was asked if he even had pre-marital sex with his wife. Yes, these were considered acceptable questions to ask of someone running for President.

If Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton were ever asked the same question, Media Matters and the liberal blogosphere would have spent months trying to get Mike Wallace fired. Yet, when Conservatives are interviewed by the liberal MSM, they get blasted with ridiculous questions to be perceived as objective.

Well, with the intent of being objective, Stahl continuously interrogated Sarkozy about why he was so pro-American, as if he had to apologize. It was truly embarrassing. Lesley wondered why Sarkozy “went so far” to tell the French people during his inauguration that he supported America. He said he wanted America to know that they can count on France, but that they can be free to disagree. Why is it that everyone around the world can love America except liberals in the MSM?

In the end, Lesley Stahl had to push his buttons by asking him about his failing Marriage. Earlier in the day, Sarkozy’s press secretary declined to comment about it. So of course, Sarkozy, who felt embarrassed and ashamed about his marriage, walked out of the interview when Stahl asked him a second time. In my opinion, he had ever right to do what he did. He certainly has better things to do than entertain 60 Minutes when he is trying to restore France to greatness. - Adapted from: copiousdissent.blogspot.com

What does his marriage have to do with anything anyway? Are you trying to burn the bridges before they are built? Be nice to the prez, he likes us!

Sarkozy and 60 Minutes Interview

I don't know if it's rude on the part of Sarkozy to end the interview in such a manner (I would not do it), but one thing we need to know is this: in Europe they don't ask about your private life very much. Remember the former French president Mitterand had a similar situation, but there was a status quo not to ask about private life.

Also Sarkozy is trying to build bridges with USA and that's good for the world peace. The more bridges between nations, the better for the world. No need to burn them as the previous commentator says.

The question was ridiculous ...

I think it was rude to ask such a personal question. He's not running for office here - it's none of our business and of very little importance. Afterall, he wasn't doing an interview with People Magazine. I'm embarrassed she asked such an absurd question. It makes it look like Americans care too much about "talking trash."

I'm an american who has lived in France for about 4 years. I have endured a lot from the French people. Sometimes I have been used as an outlet for them to express their contempt for Bush led U.S. politics. Other times, I have been the target of racist insults. Nonetheless, I have been very fortunate. My educated opinion on the subject is that this woman was being insensitive and a cruel. I actually have more respect for Sarcozy now than before the Clichy sous bois incidents. The guy is performing well considering all. He's been under fire in France because many of the French oppose change. He's trying, but I have become pessimistic that he will be very successful as president of France. Here, a 2 Masters diploma currently costs the French less than 1,000 euro. Sarcozy wants to raise the cost to around 4,000 euro - I think. Sure, that's a 4 times more expensive but the value of the diploma will increase as well. The student body does not get it. They are exercising free speech by littering the campus with posters that illustrate a hand giving the French president the middle finger. I just hope that I can finish my studies here before these idiots start organizing these self-righteous manifestations where they try to physicall block all students from entering classes. I have paid for my education and no one has the right to prevent me from going to class. Damn fools.

Dribble

Who wrote this dribble... "America... is the freest Country in the world".. yea, right, I suppose you just forgot about the USA PATRIOT Act - call that freedom!

Yes I do!! It is keeping

Yes I do!! It is keeping your freedom safe from those that want to take it away. But you are to blind to see that!!!

Not blind, "educated"...

Jeff b's picture

No, I am not blind, I am "educated", whereas you appear to come across as just another zombie; too brain-dead to comprehend just what is democracy, freedom and a truly free press, none which America currently enjoys...

You speak very eloquently. However, I don't think you read any of Bush's approval ratings in Europe lately. Maybe you should post them here.

Mmmhh... missing the point

Anonymous's picture

I am French, lived in the US during 8 years, and am now back in my home country... it's always surprising to see subtle cultural divides turn into an abyss.
To clarify the situation: I don't think Sarkozy cared a minute about whether the questions was rude or not, that's completely missing the point (even more when you educate yourself just 1mn about French politic, which someone giving an interview to a foreign head of state might want to do).
What he wanted to do was to be productive during the interview. And what he got elected for is to run a country. So ask him questions for hours about his views on any political matter, and you'll get answers. Ask him about his wife, his favorite brand of cereals, or if he used to pick his nose as a kid, and yes, he'll let you know that he's got something better to do with the time he has in office.
People simply don't care at all about politics private life around here. Answering about his marital life doesn't do any French citizen any good.

And to make another point clear: people didn't vote for him as a pro-Bush figure, I can guarantee you that. Actually his pro-Irak intervention views were one of the very few mistakes of his campaign, which might have undone everything for him. He got elected because France is running into a wall, and people wanted a young new view on things (internal matters, that is).
But read any poll around here about Bush... he is seen by many people as one of the most dangerous political figures in the world, in the same league as Korea and Iran leaders. So no, most people don't want to hug this guy.
However, if you could forget a moment your black and white view of the world, you might start to understand that people around here don't hold any grudge against your country. I for one love your culture, and am still thankful for all the guys who gave their lives during WWII for my parent's freedom. But there is a gap between Saddam and Hitler. I think that GWB has put the middle east in a hole, and that we will pay in the decades to come. That's all!
