Destined to be a highlight of the Museum Of Contemporary Art 2008 program, this major mid-career survey of British-born, Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare MBE encompasses 12 years of his artistic practice.
Shonibare's work explores ideas about African contemporary identity and the legacy of European colonialism in the present. This distinguished artist is well-known for recurring visual symbols such as his signature 'Dutch wax' fabric.
The exhibition will present a range of painting, sculpture, installation, photography and moving imagery, which is linked by theoretical concerns centred on social class and aesthetics.
Yinka Shonibare MBE will travel to Australia to oversee the exhibition installation and take part in opening events and public programs. -- www.mca.com.au
