As defined in the initial project design work by the Florida offices of John Levy Lighting Productions, the new distributed sound system is a key facet of a complete renovation of the facilities and grounds across the entire venue. The system provides paging and sound reinforcement for background music; with all zoning throughout the casino, large restaurant, outdoor patio, bar/lounge and an expansive entryway to the facility being taken care of by a sophisticated, but easy to use digital front end.
“The goal of the extensive renovation was to retain the Seminole Casino’s position as a prime entertainment destination in South Florida,” explains MAVCO engineer Greg Horn, himself an audio professional veteran with over thirty years of the live and installed markets. “Within that framework, there must be a distributed system capable of producing sound of the highest quality, and that’s where Tannoy loudspeakers entered the picture.”
Established in 1962 this multifaceted integration company specialises in the design, engineering and implementation of all forms of A/V systems. With headquarters in Miami as well as offices in Europe, MAVCO is now a global systems provider of audio, video, lighting, control and broadcast systems for major projects; whether on dry land or offshore. Horn points out that MAVCO has been utilising a wide range of Tannoy loudspeakers in its high profile sound system projects for more than a decade. “The Tannoy product line is rock solid and works great. I’ve been specifying and installing these loudspeakers for years, and can’t even begin count how many units have been used. The bottom line is that it’s one of those go-to product lines.”
Almost one hundred Tannoy ceiling loudspeakers make up the Seminole Casino's main distributed audio system, with the predominantly used CMS8 TDC being arranged in grids by MAVCO to provide smooth, solid coverage throughout each zone. This speaker is built around an eight inch, point source and constant directivity Dual Concentric™ drive unit; a driver identical to that used in Tannoy’s reference quality studio monitors. The high frequency and low frequency sources of the Dual are coincidentally aligned to a point source, resulting in smooth, uniform frequency response over a wide area of coverage. Designed for pre-mount applications, the TEQ 880 enclosure for the CMS8 TDC is rubber coated and heavily damped to control resonance and improve the detail and impact of the low frequency extension. MAVCO then specified four Dual Concentric™ equipped Tannoy iC6 DC ceiling loudspeakers to cover the outdoor patio areas, where again expansive coverage and smooth response were essential requirements.
“The best way to describe Tannoy is that they provide great all-around loudspeakers, and their quality control is exceptionally high,” Horn concludes, “In the system installation world, it doesn’t get better than that.” -Tannoy
