
The Louisville Orchestra will be performing favorites from César Franck and Leonard Bernstein as part of the Orchestra’s Coffee Classics & Hilliard Lyons Classics Series. The performance will be led by guest conductor, Catherine Comet, on Thursday, November 8 and Saturday, November 10, 2007.
On Thursday, concert will be performed at 10:30 AM and Saturday’s performance will start at 8:00 PM. Both performances take place at the Kentucky Center in Whitney Hall and feature special guest violinist, Robert McDuffie. Featured pieces on this performance include Bernstein’s Serenade and Franck’s Symphony in D minor. A pre-concert lecture will be led by Angela Fitzpatrick on Thursday at 9:30 AM in the Mary Anderson Room. On Saturday evening, the lecture will begin at 7:00 pm and be led by Alan Brandt from WUOL.
A past recipient of the Seaver/N.E.A. Conductors Award, at the time America’s most prestigious award for orchestral conductors, Catherine Comet completed her twelve-year tenure as Music Director of the Grand Rapids Symphony in the 1997-98 season. She was also Music Director of the American Symphony, Associate Conductor of the Baltimore Symphony, and Associate Conductor of the Saint Louis Symphony. She has conducted many of America’s leading orchestras as well as many overseas.
Robert McDuffie has performed with many of the major American orchestras including the Los Angeles and New York Philharmonics. He is the co-founder of the Rome Chamber Music Festival at Villa Aurelia. Mr. McDuffie was recently awarded the prestigious Premio Simpatia by the Mayor of Rome for his cultural contribution to the city. -- www.louisvilleorchestra.org
