Jonathan Goddard Is Nominated For The Times/South Bank Show Breakthrough Award

The Place is delighted to announce that Richard Alston Dance Company dancer Jonathan Goddard has been nominated for this year's The Times/South Bank Show Breakthrough Award.

The Breakthrough Award celebrates the most exciting new stars to emerge during 2006. Ten nominees, each from a different artform, have been selected for the Award by critics on The Times newspaper. Readers of The Times are invited to vote for the winner, who will be announced at the South Bank Show Awards Ceremony at the Savoy Hotel, London, on Tuesday 23 January 2007.

The Breakthrough Award for 2005 was won by actress Billie Piper, and the nominees this year include How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? winner Connie Francis and comedian Simon Amstell. Previous nominees from dance have included Royal Ballet soloists Rupert Pennefather and Lauren Cuthbertson.
Jonathan Goddard has been a member of Richard Alston Dance Company since 2002. In 2006, he danced prominent roles in Alston's Volumina and The Devil in the Detail (seen at Sadler's Wells in March), and in Gypsy Mixture at the Martha@The Wells gala which closed the Dance Umbrella 2006 festival.

In addition to his work with Richard Alston Dance Company, Goddard is the regular contemporary technique teacher for The Place's Centre for Advanced Training, which provides pre-vocational training for talented younger dancers.

Goddard will be performing with Richard Alston Dance Company on its US tour in January 2007, and then on tour in the UK from February, including performances at Sadler's Wells from Wednesday 28 - Saturday 31 March.
