The songs of the Broadway stage are legendary and, more likely than not, each of us has a Broadway tune among our favorites. That was the idea behind the McCallum Theatre's presentation of "Broadway by Request" which will showcase the favorite songs from Broadway's rich history.
Choosing from more than 100 years of Broadway shows was a daunting task so the McCallum Theatre made it simple - they asked their patrons to submit the titles of their favorite Broadway song and received hundreds of suggestions.
"Broadway by Request" will feature over twenty of the greatest hits ever heard on Broadway. From "Thou Swell" from the 1927 musical A Connecticut Yankee to "Defying Gravity" from the current smash Wicked. Selections will be featured from the hit musicals Chicago, The Music Man, Guys and Dolls, South Pacific, Evita, A Little Night Music, Phantom of the Opera and others.
"Broadway by Request" is a tour de force for its three stars, Broadway veterans Debbie Gravitte, Ron Raines and Lisa Vroman. Accompanied by a 32-piece orchestra, they will perform these magical tunes under the direction of esteemed Musical Director and Conductor Richard Kaufman. The overture for "Broadway by Request," "Overture of Overtures" was written by Palm Springs resident Barry Manilow. His incredible arrangement features melodies from sixteen different musicals seamlessly interwoven into a thrilling four minute overture. What a great way to start the show!
Performances of "Broadway by Request" will be at the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert, California, on Friday, November 23 at 8:00pm; Saturday, November 24, at 2:00pm and 8:00pm; and Sunday, November 25, at 2:00pm and 7:00pm. -- www.mccallumtheatre.com
