Seaport Toy Drive For Disadvantaged Children

For the 2006 holiday season, South Street Seaport Museum and Virginia's House of Hope announce a Toy Drive to benefit homeless and disadvantaged children and families. Toys should be appropriate for boys and girls, ages 4 to 10. The toys, which should be new, unwrapped and safe for children, can be dropped off at the Museum's Schermerhorn Row Lobby.

The mission of Virginia's House of Hope is to improve the quality of life for all New Yorkers by helping homeless and otherwise disadvantaged families throughout the five boroughs of New York City gain access to food, clothing, and other basic necessities. Throughout her life Mrs. Virginia Maitland Sachs hoped to leave a lasting legacy of improving communities in New York. Virginia's House of Hope was formed and named in her memory in 2006.

South Street Seaport Museum serves more than 40,000 New York area school children annually in both school groups and family programs. Founded in 1967, South Street Seaport Museum's mission is to preserve, interpret and display the history of New York as a world port. The museum highlights the South Street Seaport Historic District and the enormous contribution of maritime enterprise to the economic, social, and cultural heritage of the city, the state and the nation. This is accomplished through exhibitions, on- and off-site public programs and formal education programs for students of all ages.
