According to a University of Maine student government representative, the university may file a lawsuit against rock band My Chemical Romance due to a cancelled show.

The band cited health concerns for drummer Bob Bryar in the cancellation notification on Thursday, but played a show on the proceeding Friday. The cancellation reason is considered an 'act of God', and relieves both parties from any obligations.

"Unless it is truly due to sickness or injury of the band, we intend to seek full damages for breach of contract. When they played Friday night, I think that kind of voids an 'Act of God' claim," Derek Mitchell, the vice president of student entertainment said.

The lawsuit, if agreed upon by the General Student Senate, would seek $20,500 for advertising, ticket sales, contractor fees, and cancellation fees. - Source: Wikinews

UMaine are overreacting... the band offered to play another show, which they turned down, so they can't exactly file a lawsuit.

WOW

I agree, if they offered to play another show then they shouldnt be sued. Just a way of getting their names in the paper. As if their legal team could beat out Warner Brothers legal team. Its a waste of time and money. They should suck it up, let them reschedule and get over it.

Outrage!

Not only is the University of Maine's reaction most unfair to the band, but does not encompass the response every Maine fan. If you care for MCR, do not let this outrage go by unnoticed!!

For our guys,
To the End.

Selfish.

The university is just being selfish to be honest. I understand that people shoud be disappointed but what if they did play? And Bob got more injury's and then they might of had to cancel all the U.K shows. Witch would be gutting for us, the band said they would replay, I don't see the problem.

not so

I do not believe the university is doing anything wrong. the band said that they were not going to be able to play on the 27. they offered a replay but the university may not have had a date. either way. after they canceled and said that they were unable to perform the show due to the "act of God" they went on to play another show with all the band members on the 26. which means that all the members of the band were in good enought health to play. so the university is outraged that they were trying to sleeze their way out of a contract and is only trying to recoup their losses so that they may use the $20000 plus to hold another large event for the students. and for an event such as this with staging, lighting, and good sount equipment. plus all the advertising and such... 20000 is rather cheep. I fell that any university or college that had this happen would have done the same thing. I also do not see this comming down to 1 question... why did you play a show after you canceled with UVM based on health issues?
