Adelaide Orchestra Presents Guitar Festival

Multi – Grammy Award winning Brazilian guitar duo and Brothers Sergio and Odair Assad will perform two special concerts with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra in November and December as part of the first Adelaide Guitar Festival and orchestra’s Master Series program.

To be performed on Friday 30 November, 8.00pm and Saturday 1 December, 6.30pm at Festival Theatre the concerts entitled Rhapsodie Espagnole will bring these world class artists to the Adelaide concert stage.

The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra will open this performance with Ravel’s Rhapsodie Espagnole and Alborada del Gracioso setting the mood, and will conclude the concert with Ravel’s Daphnis and Chloe Suite No. 2. The concert will also showcase the multi-Grammy Award-winning genius of the Assads. Together with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra they will shine in an unhindered display of brilliance in Rodrigo’s exquisite Concierto Madrigal and the legendary tango king Astor Piazzolla’s sultry Argentinean version of The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires.

The Brazilian brothers are internationally renowned for creating a new standard of guitar innovation. Their virtuosity has inspired a wide range of composers to write for them: Astor Piazzolla, Terry Riley, Marlos Nobre, Jorge Morel and Edino Krieger. Sergio Assad is now adding to their repertory by composing music for the duo and for various music partners both with symphony orchestra and in recital.

The Assad Brothers have recently performed Joaquin Rorigo’s Concierto Madrigal for Two Guitars and the Four Seasons of Bueno Aries for two guitars and orchestra with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, where the piece was originally premiered. The Los Angeles Times raved:

“They (Assad Brothers) aren’t just soloists but a two - man, multi - voice band of soloists who play instinctively well together...with rhythmic intuition and soul” -- www.aso.com.au
