Northern Broadsides Return To Liverpool Theatre

The irrepressible Northern Broadsides return to Liverpool with Lisa’s Sex Strike, a riotous new adaptation of the classic Greek comedy Lysistrata with a cast featuring legendary Artistic Director Barrie Rutter. Last seen in Liverpool at the Playhouse with last year’s The Man With Two Gaffers, Northern Broadsides arrive at the Everyman from Tuesday 6 to Saturday 10 November.

Intolerable racial tensions are tearing the mixed community apart. Summat must be done, and sharpish! Radical behaviour requires a radical plan so the feisty Lisa hatches an outrageous plot to encourage peace – a sex strike – no more nooky ‘til the fighting stops, with hilarious consequences. But as the women of Blackhurst strive towards love they make a disturbing discovery that turns their local dispute into a demonstration of global proportions.

Lisa’s Sex Strike reunites Northern Broadsides with writer Blake Morrison following their side-splitting collaboration on last year’s The Man With Two Gaffers at the Playhouse. Filled with music, song and unforgettable comic performances, this is another wonderful Broadsides production guaranteed to thrill and delight their legions of loyal fans.

Northern Broadsides are one of the country’s finest touring theatre companies, internationally renowned for their modern productions of classic drama. Based in Yorkshire, their work is characterised by earthy and colourful local language performed by a stable of northern actors. Exuberant, boisterous and uproarious, the company have been creating vivid and entertaining theatre for the past 15 years. -- www.everymanplayhouse.com
