Former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto has called for a mass uprising against General Pervez Musharraf over his imposition of a state of emergency.
Ms Bhutto said the Pakistani opposition and supporters will begin a long march from Lahore on November 13 unless General Musharraf quits the army.
She threw down the gauntlet to army chief General Musharraf after consulting with other opposition leaders over strategy to make him abandon emergency rule, which he invoked on November 3.
"If demands are not met by November 9, we'll start a long march from Lahore on November 13 and then we will stage a sit-in in Islamabad," Ms Bhutto told a news conference.
"I appeal to the people of Pakistan to come forward. We are under attack."
Ms Bhutto vowed to hold a rally in Rawalpindi on Friday in spite of police threats of a crackdown as well as the Lahore march.
"How many people can they put behind bars? We will produce so many that they will not have enough jails," the two-time prime minister said.
"I call on all political forces to join hands and I will be travelling to Lahore. I want them to join us and we (will) go for a long march on November 13 from Lahore to Islamabad." © 2007 Australian Broadcasting Corporation
