Altar Boyz is an award winning, Off-Broadway musical that debuted March 1, 2005 in New York. This laugh out loud comedy will be directed by Robert Kolby Harper, Phoenix Theatre’s Associate Artistic Director.
“This show energizes me” says Robert Kolby Harper, Director and Associate Artistic Director. “The cast is phenomenal and their enthusiasm for the piece translates into a dynamic production.
“This show is filled with fun, upbeat music and incredible choreography. Our audience is really going to enjoy this production,” Harper said.
Altar Boyz is about a Christian boy band who are on the last night of their “Raise the Praise” tour across America. The band is set to save souls with killer dance moves while performing their hit songs like “God Put the Rhythm In Me” and “Girl, You Make Me Want to Wait”. With their ‘virginal’ sex-appeal, Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan and Abraham (he’s Jewish) turn the night into a rockin’, theatrical spoof on the boy band industry.
The production stars Nicholas Aliberti as Juan, Brian Golub as Abraham, Lucas Coatney (85257) as Mark, Preston Ellis as Matthew and Brian Gligor as Luke. Set design is by Greg Jaye, lighting design by Mike Eddy, sound design by Dave Temby and costume design is by Addie Diaz. Production manager is Mike Eddy.
Music and lyrics are by Gary Alder and Michael Patrick Walker. The Book is by Kevin Del Aguila.
“The show isn’t about religion, it’s about faith,” says Harper. “The final song, ‘I Believe’ is about finding strength in the people we surround ourselves with while forgiving each other and ourselves for our shortcomings and mistakes. It’s a great message for anyone.”
The performance is scheduled November 7 through December 2, 2007. Tickets are $38, $33 for seniors. Student rush tickets are available 30 minutes prior to curtain, based on availability.
