As part of the theatres’ commitment to nurturing the next generation of theatre-goers, Watershed Theatre return to the Playhouse following their highly successful tour of Jacqueline Wilson’s Midnight in 2005. This time they have joined forces with The Orange Tree Theatre to bring us Jacqueline’s funny and touching The Suitcase Kid, adapted and directed by Vicky Ireland. The Suitcase Kid runs from Wednesday 14 to Saturday 17 November.

10 year old Andrea used to live happily with her family at Mulberry Cottage. Andy, Mum, Dad… and Radish, who lives in Andy’s pocket and shares all her secrets. But then it all went wrong: Mum went to live with Bill and Dad went off with Carrie. And Andy? Well, she’s expected to shuttle between the two – living out of a suitcase. Even worse, suddenly, Andy’s got five step-brothers and sisters – Bill has Paula and Graham and horrible little Katie and hippy-dippy Carrie has her twins Zen and Crystal.

Jacqueline Wilson, former Children’s Laureate, is one of Britain’s best-loved and most prolific authors. Over 20 million copies of Wilson’s books have been sold in the UK alone and she is the most borrowed author from British libraries. Famed for her funny and realistic stories about modern children facing trouble in their daily lives, her previous books include Double Act, Midnight, Girls in Love and the hugely successful The Story of Tracy Beaker, which has been turned into a BAFTA award-winning TV show and, last year, was turned into a stage show which also visited the Playhouse.

Adaptor and director Vicky Ireland is one of Britain’s foremost directors of theatre for children and young people. She was, until recently, Artistic Director of the prestigious Polka Theatre for Children in London and was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Jubilee Birthday honours list for Services to Drama for Children, the first award of its kind. -- www.everymanplayhouse.com
