Wednesday night, (Nov.7, 2007) was marked as a significant event for Country Music, as the 41st Annual Country Music Association Awards (CMA) took place in Sommet Center in Nashville, Tennessee, at 8 p.m., being broadcasted on ABC.

The CMA Awards nomination included – entertainer of the year, male/female vocalist, music video, musical event of the year, album and single of the year, etc. According to FOXNews.com the great festivity in the musical world was signified by a large number of nominees, many of whom led with more than one nomination.

Among them Strait and Brad Paisley can be mentioned for leading five nominations each and Strait being nominated as a musical event of the year, for a performance with Jimmy Buffett and Alan Jackson; album of the year for "It Just Comes Natural" and single of the year for "Wrapped" which tuned out to be the 55th No1 single in his career. As to the same source, this year special tributes were paid to a female group the Dixie Chicks on their return to the Country Music Awards since 2003, when Natalie Maines expressed some humiliating ideas addressed to the President George Bush.

This time the Chicks won the nomination of the best vocal group. Cmt.com signifies one more pleasant surprise of the CMA - the Eagles' first appearance on the show, although 15 years ago drummer-vocalist Don Henley performed there and an album of their songs won album of the year honors two years later. As Henley said in an interview,"So we don't feel like carpetbaggers or anything.

We feel like we have a very deep connection. We really started out as a country band. We had a banjo in our first single -- actually in the tag of 'Take It Easy' -- so we feel right at home doing the CMAs." Among the permanent winners of CMA Carrie Underwood can be named for winning her first Single of the Year CMA Award for "Before He Cheats." She also repeated her 2006 win for Female Vocalist of the Year.

Rascal Flatts, who were named Vocal Group of the Year for the fifth consecutive year, can also be named among the veterans of the CMA Awards. Other nominees are Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts and Keith Urban nominated in the entertainer of the year category. Alison Krauss was nominated for female vocalist of the year, along with Miranda Lambert, Martina McBride, Reba McEntire and "American Idol" winner Carrie Underwood.

As to the success of the event in terms of rating, as the like in its own way, among the TV audience, a special survey has been carried out by Courier-journal.com, according to which the number of people who watched the CMA show is quite encouraging this year in comparison to the previous one, especially if we take into account the decrease of intererst of the audience towards such shows, which is explained by growing number of various TV channels offering countless entertaining programs.

Country Music continues to rule!

It is amazing how in today's highly saturated music industry, Country Music continues to stay on top. So much so that it is the only genre of music that has it's OWN award show! Through all the years and all the changes, country music remains the widest listened to genre of music, leaving other genres scratching their heads as to how they do it.
Well... one thing that has happened in country music has been the different sub genres born from the influence of other styles of music. Other genres have tried... rock has gone rap, rap has gone rock, pop has gone... no where. lol.

But, country has been able to infuse pop to a major success. Other forms, such as Outlaw Country has grown quite popular as well. Mixing a heavier and edgier, rock feel to the music has broadened the country fan base to the rockers. And even the roots... highlighting bands with bluegrass, rockabilly, and classic rock influences. No wonder country music has survived and come out on top in a very confused and worried industry.
If you need further proof, look no further than the big performance of the Eagles at this year's CMAs. One of the biggest selling artists of all-time, typically best known for their classic rock roots, was showcased at the Country Music Awards. All of these styles go together so well and there is actually a station that I'm working with that plays them all together in one place with hardly any commercials! It's called Lone Star 92.5 and can be found here: http://www.lonestar925.com
Give it a try. I personally love the more rockin' outlaw country styles... what do you like?
