Sen. Barack Obama has expressed annoyance with a photo circulating the Internet that accuses him of refusing to hold his hand over his heart during the Pledge of Allegiance.
"He refused to not only put his hand on his heart during the pledge of allegiance, but refused to say the pledge” a chain email with the picture of Obama said, “how in the hell can a man like this expect to be our next Commander-in-Chief?”
Obama responded to questions in Iowa saying the photo was taken during the national anthem, not the pledge, and that he was irritated by what he called “a dirty trick.”
"My grandfather taught me how to say the Pledge of Allegiance when I was 2," Obama told the Associated Press, "During the Pledge of Allegiance you put your hand over your heart. During the national anthem you sing."
The photo in question, taken in September during a democratic fundraiser, has gained wide exposure and debate on the web. Many are firing back, including a Washington Post blog which calls such email attacks “un-American.”

That is such a blatant outrageous lie. When Hussein was 2 years old his grandfather was a MUSLIM not even living in this country. Why would a MUSLIM (and one with a violent history at that) teach him the Pledge of Allegiance when he was raised to hate Christians. Jews and Americans in general???

Religion is not the problem but people who are ignorant.
It is deplorable to attack any one group of people for the actions of a minority.
I know that my words right now will not hit home with Johnathon P Jansky or with people who share his view.
I will say this: what the public knows is what the public sees. If we see on TV, Muslims making attacks on others, people will associate Muslims with attacks. If we were to see Muslims on TV helping others in their community, then maybe we would not need to worry about what people think so much.
No matter who you are, YOU represent your skin color, your religion, your sexual orientation, etc. I believe people tend to forget that they have a responsibility to themselves and to others. I will give an example from experience:
I was walking through a door and noticed a Hasidic Jew behind me, so I held the door open for him. In America, this usually elicits a "thank you," but this Hasidic Jew does not say anything. It is such a small thing, but in my mind, I immediately thought, what a bastard for not saying thank you. The smallest things in life actually do matter, from the way you greet someone to the way you treat others, because we are constantly making judgments of one another almost automatically, if not subconsciously.
Am I going to associate bad manners with all Hasidic Jews? No, but from what I have experienced in my interactions with them, they seem not to be the friendliest of people. I will not say that all of them are, but because they stand out so much from "regular folk," it is easier to see one walking on the street and make a prejudice about them, be it positive or negative. Skin color, as well, makes people jump to conclusions very early, as well as other objects that stand out.
That is how people base their opinions of one another- through experience and word of mouth/the media.
And that is how people like Johnathan P Jansky make their assumptions- through what they see and hear from experience and other people.
I do not like people like Johnathan, but I am sure he is a normal person... at least, I hope he is, because normal people tend to be civilized about these things, and can change their minds...
