EDS (NYSE: EDS), a leading information technology (IT) services company, today announced the official opening of its Wuhan Global Service Centre (GSC). Located in Wuhan Optic-Valley Software Park, the new GSC marks a significant step forward in EDS' Best Shore strategy to deliver high quality, cost competitive IT services.
With a capacity of 1,400 employees, the new Wuhan GSC is the company's fourth global service centre and will serve as a delivery centre for IT services to enterprises not only within China, but also around the world. The new facility, together with Best Shore facilities in Shanghai, provides world class services in the areas of application development and maintenance, as well as infrastructure and business process outsourcing, which are helping to drive the transformation of China's economy from low-end manufacturing to higher, value-added industries and services.
“As an industry leader, EDS offers IT services across a spectrum of industries from manufacturing to financial services to transportation. EDS is aligned to partner with the Chinese government as the country develops its IT industry,” says David Wirt, corporate vice president and managing director, EDS Greater China and Korea, “The completion of the Wuhan GSC demonstrates our commitment not only to boost China as a world-class information technology services market, but also to bolster the city of Wuhan as a high tech center.”
Targeting China as a Best Shore location combines EDS' in-depth IT infrastructure, applications knowledge and world class experience with the country's enormous pool of IT talent. Through its Best Shore services delivery structure, EDS ensures the right blend of onshore, nearshore and offshore global delivery capabilities meets its clients unique business requirements. Today, EDS has a Best Shore work force of more than 40,000 professionals in 20 countries, including GSCs in Argentina, Hungary, India and China.
“The Wuhan GSC leverages China's strengths including infrastructure development and technical skills to deliver core cross-portfolio IT services to meet the needs not only of our clients in China, but also elsewhere in Asia and globally,” said Kerry Purcell, EDS vice president and managing director for Asia. “The scalable capacity and diverse skills form the perfect synergy with our regional service centre capacity to provide services to a wide range of industries in different languages across a broad client base.”
Underscoring the partnership dimension, in June of this year, EDS and China's Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) announced a milestone partnership which aims to boost China's role as a global giant in IT services.
Under the Strategic Cooperation Agreement, EDS and MOFCOM will work closer to shape the industry's direction, especially on policy and regulatory issues, as well as cultivate market growth opportunities. EDS has also signed a strategic agreement with the Hubei Provincial Government.
China's domestic outsourcing industry has developed rapidly in recent years. In 2006, the country's software outsourcing market reached a value of US$1.43 billion, a jump of 55 percent over the previous year, and is projected to reach US$7.03 billion by 2010, according to CCID Consulting, the leading market research and advisory firm focused on China's IT industries. -EDS
