Pakistan House arrested Judges shifted to Quetta

Former Pakistan premier Benazir Bhutto was today prevented from meeting sacked Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, who is currently under house arrest here.

"It is no crime to see him. He is still the real chief justice of Pakistan," she said over a megaphone to security personnel guarding the house of Chaudhry.

However, the policemen did not allow her to go inside the house of Chaudhry. PTI

Benazir on unannounced appearance at a protest rally organized by journalists to oppose imposition of emergency in the country, Bhutto went straight to the Judges Colony, where several deposed judges of the Supreme Court, including Chaudhry, are being held for refusing to endorse President Pervez Musharraf's actions.

Justice Javed Iqbal, who was heading a bench of Pakistan's Supreme Court hearing petitions challenging President Pervez Musharraf's re-election in uniform and put under house arrest, was today flown to Quetta from here by security officials. Iqbal along with several other judges of the apex court who refused to endorse the emergency imposed by President Pervez Musharraf last week, was flown from Islamabad to Quetta in a Pakistan International Airline flight.

As the flight landed in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, Iqbal was whisked away by security officials to his home in the cantonment area.

The officials did not allow journalists to talk to Iqbal at the airport and prevented the media from approaching his home.

Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, who was also put under house arrest here, might be shifted by the government to Quetta or Murree, a hill resort 50 kms from here, to prevent him from speaking to the media and lawyers about opposing the emergency.
