Dorothy Allison, author of the acclaimed and controversial “Bastard Out of Carolina,” will read from her works Monday, Nov. 12, at the University of Wyoming.
A lesbian writer and activist, she will read, sign books, and answer questions beginning at 5:30 p.m. in Room 310 of the Classroom Building.
Allison describes herself as a feminist and a working-class storyteller. She has written two novels, two books of poetry, a collection of short stories, a memoir and a book of essays. She is now working on her third novel, due in 2009.
UW’s Master of Fine Arts Visiting Writer Series hosts the event. The program is committed to mentoring a new generation of writers and bringing to the state a wealth of literary talent from the region, nation and world.
Allison's visit is sponsored by an endowment from the state of Wyoming, a grant from the Wyoming Arts Council, UW's LGBT student organization Spectrum, and the Rainbow Resource Center of the Office for Multicultural Affairs. - Source: University of Wyoming
