Microsemi Corporation a leading manufacturer of analog and mixed signal integrated circuits, announced today that it is shipping production volumes of its advanced wireless LAN (WLAN) power amplifiers designed into draft 1.0 802.11n WLAN platforms from Atheros Communications.
Designated the LX5511(tm), the Microsemi 2.4GHz power amplifier utilizes the advanced InGaP HBT technology that supports the new-generation Atheros XSPAN(tm) AR5008E-3NG draft 802.11n WLAN chipset. The LX5511 is utilized in Atheros-based reference designs for access point, card bus, PCI and PCI-Express WLAN applications.
The LX5511 is the latest in a series of Microsemi WLAN power amplifiers chosen to support the Atheros chipsets. It is designed to provide state-of-the-art performance in a compact size to support multimedia applications enabled by Atheros 802.11n solutions.
"We were extremely pleased to be included in the latest Atheros XSPAN 802.11n chipset reference designs and to support their OEM customers in volume production," said James J. Peterson, Microsemi President and CEO. "Together, we are again bringing technology leadership to the dynamic wireless LAN market," he said.
The LX5511 is a two-stage MMIC device, 3mm square, with active bias and output prematching. Its advanced InGaP HBT process provides highest efficiency as well as enhanced operating performance from a single low voltage supply of 3.3V. With 26dB power gain between 2.3 and 2.5GHz, the LX5511 offers a low 90mA quiescent current.
All Microsemi wireless LAN power amplifiers are manufactured consistent with Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) guidelines.
