108 passengers and five crew members were pulled from an airplane today after a suspicious suitcase was discovered on the tarmac emitting smoke.
A baggage handler noticed the suitcase, hot and smoking, around 10 am this morning at the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
Authorities were tipped to the piece of baggage before the flight to San Antonio took off.
Experts checked the bag and found there was no explosives. The plane was moved away from busy tarmac traffic for a hazardous materials team inspection.
Julie Rodriguez, an airport spokeswomen, says the Phoenix Fire Department is still investigating where the smoke came from, and authorities are questioning the suitcase owner.
The incident is not suspected to have any ties to terrorism.
Passengers of flight 200 were allowed to re-board once the item had been removed.
The suitcase may have been screened at another airport, reports CBS, since the passenger had a connecting flight.
