Australian ex-pats in Britain have started to cast their votes in the federal election. A polling station has been set up at the Australian High Commission in London for the quarter of a million Australians living in Britain.

The president of the Liberal Party's UK branch, Jason Groves, says more than 20,000 Australian ex-pats are expected to vote at the London booth.

"A lot of them do keep an eye on what's going on in Australia because they want to go back there. And that's the very strong message we've got for this election," he said.

"What kind of Australia do you want to go back to? And I feel very strongly that the people who see that message will vote for John Howard and the Liberal Party." © 2007 Australian Broadcasting Corporation
