Celebrate the holiday season at the Cleveland Museum of Art (CMA) as it presents the 14th annual Winter Lights Lantern Festival, Friday, Nov. 30 through Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007.

Inspired by the centuries-old cross-cultural tradition of ceremonial lighting displays, this festival is the Museum’s contribution to Holiday CircleFest, a day of seasonal music, gift shopping, workshops and refreshments hosted by the University Circle community.

Beginning Friday evening Nov. 30, the Museum will present the collaborative art installation Environment of Lights on Wade Oval by artist pairs Mark and Patty Jenks, Carl Johnson and Abby Maier, Rafael Valdivieso and Lizzie Roche, Hector Castellanos-Lara and Story Lee Rhinehart and also a central piece designed by Ian Petroni.

The concept for the Environment of Lights, featuring a signature illuminated gateway, was designed and created by CMA’s Artistic Director of Community Arts Robin VanLear. The installation will remain on view through Dec. 16.

In addition, beginning Friday evening and continuing through Dec. 9, lantern installations will be on view throughout the museum. Lanterns created especially for the CircleFest procession by eight invited artists will be exhibited on the classroom level: Debbie Apple-Presser, Diana Bjel, Barbara Chira, Tanya Gonzalez, Scott Heiser, Wendy Mahon, Ian Petroni and Mark Yasenchack. -- www.clevelandart.org
