Gas War Turns Deadly

A confrontation between two rival gas stations employees resulted in the fatal shooting of one owner, reports say, following an ongoing rivalry for business.

A physical altercation between the competitors began after Marathon gas station workers in southwest Detroit cut the price of gas to three cents a gallon less than the neighboring BP station at $2.93.

Two Marathon employees and the owner, 51, were then confronted by the BP owner, 45, over the price cut resulting in a fight.

Police responded to a call, reports WXYZ, around 10:30 am, for an assault in progress involving a baseball bat and pipe.

Before officers arrived on the scene the Marathon owner went into his station, got a gun, and shot the BP owner multiple times, leaving him dead.

The fatal shooting, WXYZ reports, came with a long held rivalry between the stations, caught in a price war as gasoline continues to sky rocket. The gunman was taken into police custody following the incident.
