The changeover timetable

Slovenia introduced the euro according to the "big-bang" scenario, which means that between 1 and 14 January 2007 the euro will circulate alongside the tolar. After 14 January, only payment in euro banknotes and coins will be possible. Banks, savings banks and post offices will exchange tolars and euros without commission until 1 March. Thereafter, exchange will only be possible at the Bank of Slovenia; there will be no deadline for banknotes, but the coins will need to be exchanged by the end of 2016.

Slovenian euro coins

On 1 January 2007, Slovenia introduced Slovenian euro coins, which have a national side and a standard side. On the 1 and 2 euro coins, and on the coins for 10, 20 and 50 cents, the standard side for the first time features a map of the entire Europe. The Bank of Slovenia has commissioned the Mint of Finland to mint 234 million euro coins, while the euro banknotes were borrowed from the European System of Central Banks.
