EU Accepted Romania and Bulgaria: Is There Are Reasons To Celebrate.

Event that would be classified as major milestone in both countries were not reason for major celebrations. It seems that EU officials were modest in their expressions.

January 1, 2007
The following statement was reported by most influential media.

"The day we are welcoming - 1 January 2007 - will undoubtedly find its place among the most important dates in our national history" said Georgi Parvanov Bulgarian President.

Most of the celebration events were moderate. President of Romania Mr.Basescu said, "We arrived in Europe". There were no special events and national joy. You would expect all nation festivities but officials and economists were less cheerful.

Most economists call that arrival of big economies into Romania and Bulgaria. There is a fear that it is just EU expansion and big European companies already seek special privileges from governments. Comparing to rest of EU Romania and Bulgaria financial institutions looks like a prey for major bank networks.

The fact that both countries went trough legislative and procedural adjustment. Cultural and ethnic differences were settled with some difficulties. EU was uneasy with Romania and US relations, as Romania is still US ally. In most cases EU legislation demanded socialistic changes which are not favorite to current Romanian economy.

There was less enthusiasm when economic indexes were compared to existing EU members. Romania and Bulgaria had open opposition to joining EU. Such factors as price equilibrium could cause serious consequences to growing economy. The fact that both countries are looking for expansion and follow capitalistic model and are very fragile, simple currency deficit or overage could cause financial crisis. Also, it is usual to new economies in former communist regimes to exercise state control and overkill market.

EU has their own problems and unlikely to overcome all the disagreements with major players. Would Romania and Bulgaria fit into EU economic system.
