The Chicago History Museum has teamed up with the band Chicago to commemorate the band’s 40th anniversary by presenting the installation CHICAGO 40: The Band and its City, at the Museum’s entrance which will be on display, Tuesday, December 4, and will run through Sunday, March 30, 2008.

The band will also be performing a special concert fundraiser at the Museum for only 350 people. Tickets, on sale now at the Museum, are available to Museum members only and are limited to 4 tickets per membership. A special one-year membership and ticket package is available for $100 per ticket; current Museum members pay $80 per ticket.

“The band Chicago is a timeless classic that has been enjoyed for generations, said president Gary T. Johnson, “We are honored that they are embracing their hometown roots and want to celebrate their 40th anniversary with us.”

The band Chicago formed on the Northside in February, 1967. Made up largely of DePaul University music school students, the band brought together jazz, rock, classical, pop and R&B in a completely new way, and soon took off on a 40-year run of virtually unparalleled creative and commercial success. To date, the group has sold more than 100,000,000 records, earning more than 40 gold and platinum records, Grammy and American Music Awards, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

For the installation, the band has given the Museum full access to archive materials drawing from the entirety of its remarkable history. Many of the objects will become part of the Chicago History Museum’s permanent collection. -- www.chicagohs.org
