Study supports digital breast cancer screening

Australian doctors say a new study shows digital mammogram technology can pick up abnormalities missed by conventional breast screening.

The Peter MacCallum cancer centre in Melbourne was the first hospital in Australia to offer digital mammograms to diagnose breast cancer.

Digital mammogram screening on almost 1,200 women picked up 17 cancer tumours while six patients had pre-cancerous cell changes.
