Experience Music Project|Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame opened Innersphere: Sculptural Works by Rik Allen. This exhibition of works by Washington artist Rik Allen features glass and metal sculpture inspired by his life-long fascination with technology and science fiction.
Innersphere: Sculptural Works by Rik Allen is organized by EMP|SFM and runs through April 25, 2008 at EMP|SFM. Allen’s work is presented courtesy of the Traver Gallery.
“The exhibition orbits around two precariously balanced axes,” said Jacob McMurray, senior curator at EMP|SFM. “The outer journey of humanity as it reaches for the stars and the inner journey of the creative individual who dreams of what could be.”
Allen developed his sense of wonder as a boy reading science fiction stories, watching NASA launches on television, seeing futuristic films and spending long hours in the creative playroom of his own imagination. His childhood sketches of rockets are clearly seen as an inspiration for his work today. The powerful imagery of science fiction is the subject of his newest set of artworks. Innersphere: Sculptural Works by Rik Allen is accompanied by a 40-page catalog highlighting Allen’s intricate work. -- www.empsfm.org
