Nissan recall includes 650,000 sedans due to overheat

Nissan is recalling more than 650,000 sedans after discovering a faulty engine part was installed in the vehicles. The part can overheat and cause the cars to stall at low speeds. The recall includes 2002, 2005 and 2006 Altima and Sentras with 2.5 four cylinder engines.

The engines of Nissans crankshaft position sensor can overheat and stop sending its signal which could cause the ECM to not decode in enough time. The engine could stall while being driven at low speeds, increasing the risk on an accident.

“It’s a voluntary campaign and it’s relating to an electronic control module program,” said Darryll Harrison, Nissan’s products spokesman. “We’re mot aware of any reports of anyone being injured because of this. Letters will be going out early next month to owners. They will be notified to come into the dealerships and have their ECM reprogrammed.”

Owners of the recalled cars can take their vehicles to Nissan dealerships and have the ECM reprogrammed free of charge. - Source: Transworld News
