TED has two components: a transmitter to be placed in the home's electrical panel, and a display unit to be plugged in any available outlet. No additional wiring is needed, as data is sent over existing wires each second, and displays accurate (to within +/- 2%), real-time digital readouts on an LCD screen, including:
Once people have an idea of the amount of energy being used, they tend to be far more dedicated to reduction and conservation. TED can measure your entire home or individual circuits, giving homeowners the ability to test one room at a time, measure suspected "energy hogs" or teach their children the very real numbers of how much it costs to run lights not being used, or a television set. Get them to "go green" early in life and understand how being more energy efficient helps the environment!
A qualified homeowner or electrician can easily install TED in about 10-15 minutes; once set to the correct date and time, the system will retain data for 13 months at a time – even when unplugged or during power outages.
TED can also be programmed with alarms to alert users to any particularly high energy consumption, or when the home has reached a projected monthly budget.
